InPhase IECT June 2026: 33 kV STATCOM Milestone and the Future of Power Quality

InPhase IECT June 2026 is a feature that reflects an important stage in our journey of developing advanced, indigenous power-quality solutions for industry. We are proud to be featured in the June 2026 issue of Indian Electrical Contractor & Trader (IECT), where our team discussed the changing power-quality requirements of modern industry, our 33 kV STATCOM commissioning milestone, and our vision for the years ahead.

The Power-Quality Conversation Is Changing

Power quality has traditionally been associated with issues such as power factor, KVAH billing, and penalties. These remain important, but the concerns we hear from industrial customers today are becoming much more complex.

Harmonics are increasingly becoming a major concern across industrial facilities.

Customers are experiencing premature equipment failures, transformer derating, nuisance tripping of drives and breakers, overheating, and other operational problems associated with poor power quality.

This represents a significant shift in the way industry looks at electrical power.

The conversation is no longer simply about avoiding a power-factor penalty. It is increasingly about protecting production, improving equipment reliability, reducing maintenance costs, and preventing unplanned downtime.

That is a much more mature power-quality conversation.

For InPhase, this evolution reinforces the importance of developing technologies that can respond dynamically to changing industrial loads and provide effective compensation where conventional approaches may not be sufficient.

Our 33 kV STATCOM Milestone

One of the key topics discussed in the InPhase IECT June 2026 feature was our 33 kV STATCOM commissioning for a titanium melting facility.

Titanium melting is among the most demanding industrial electrical applications. The process can involve rapid current fluctuations, severe flicker, and significant harmonic content. Such dynamic electrical conditions require a compensation system capable of responding quickly and accurately to changing load conditions.

Commissioning an active compensation system at the 33 kV level therefore represents a significant engineering achievement.

The project also reflects our commitment to indigenous technology development. The system was developed using components and engineering capabilities built within India, supported by years of development, testing, field experience, and continuous improvement.

Our engineering team has worked patiently to develop solutions capable of addressing increasingly demanding industrial applications.

India’s Indigenous Active Compensation Capability

Today, InPhase is the first Indian company to commercially deploy active compensation systems up to 33 kV.

For many years, advanced active compensation solutions at this voltage level were largely associated with global multinational companies. Reaching this level of capability demonstrates the growing strength of Indian engineering and technology development.

For us, the significance of the 33 kV milestone goes beyond a single project.

It demonstrates that complex power-quality challenges can be addressed through technology developed and commercialised in India.

As Indian manufacturing and process industries continue to become more automated and electrically sophisticated, indigenous solutions will play an increasingly important role in supporting reliable industrial infrastructure.

Why Power Quality Matters to the Business

Technical teams understand the consequences of poor power quality. However, one of the most important discussions is how to communicate the financial impact to business leaders and CFOs.

The business case becomes much clearer when power quality is connected directly to production and operational reliability.

Consider a process industry where an unexpected electrical disturbance stops production for several hours.

The cost may include:

  • Lost production

  • Production delays

  • Material losses

  • Equipment damage

  • Additional maintenance

  • Unplanned manpower requirements

  • Delivery delays

  • Reduced operational efficiency

In some process industries, just a few hours of unplanned downtime can cost more than the investment required for the entire compensation system.

This changes the way the return on investment should be evaluated.

Power-quality solutions should not be viewed only as electrical infrastructure expenses. They should also be evaluated as investments in business continuity, equipment protection, operational reliability, and production efficiency.

When the conversation is framed around the cost of downtime and the value of reliability, the business case for power-quality improvement becomes much stronger.

Building Towards 2031

The InPhase IECT June 2026 feature also gave us an opportunity to discuss where InPhase is heading by 2031.

Our 33 kV achievement is an important milestone, but it is only one part of a much larger journey.

Industrial electrical systems are becoming increasingly dynamic. The growing adoption of power electronics, variable-frequency drives, converters, furnaces, renewable-energy systems, and automated manufacturing processes is creating new power-quality challenges.

The future will require solutions that are faster, smarter, more responsive, and capable of managing increasingly complex electrical environments.

Our focus is to continue strengthening our technology capabilities, expanding the applications of active compensation, and developing solutions that help industries achieve cleaner and more reliable power.
